My wife, Catriona, and I have lived in Islington for 25 years. Our children were both born at the former EGA and we've been patients at the old and new UCLH and two other UCLH hospitals. I became a Governor in 2011 because:
- I care about the quality of care that our local hospitals can provide in these challenging times;
- I believe that my background, as a solicitor with over 20 years experience in public sector finance, can help UCLH in meeting those challenges.
I've been involved in research, fund-raising projects and in the Essence of Care Benchmarking Programme. | | back to top |

I became public governor of UCLH in 2007 and was re-elected in 2010. I have a work background in business and social research. I’ve been a non-exec. At the Royal Free and the Tavistock & Portman Clinics. I’ve also chaired a Research Ethics Committee at UCLH.
I’ve lived in Hampstead for the past fifty years so I have good local knowledge. I want to continue working with staff, other governors and members to find ways to make the hospital even more responsive to patients’ needs in spite of the current economic climate and the proposed changes to the NHS. | | back to top |

| I was elected as Public Governor in 2011 so I’m still learning. But I want UCLH to be the best, and I’m very interested in how ‘best’ can be defined and measured. For the past 10 years I’ve managed the data of an NHS agency dealing with concerns about professional practice. I’m used to digging in tables and looking for patterns. Before that, I worked for many years for a trade union in the health sector, dealing with policy and educational issues. As a local patient, I’m especially interested in how UCLH and primary care can work together most effectively. | | back to top |

I live in Scotland and became a governor in 2009. I wanted to contribute the views and opinions of patients who were referred to UCLH for tertiary care. I am editor of UCLH News and am keen to ensure the work of governors is successfully communicated to members.
I trained as a nurse and spent most of my 40 years in the NHS working in specialist nursing posts and infection control. I feel I can bring my knowledge and understanding of clinical issues to the governing body to help the Trust achieve its mission of providing high-quality care. | | back to top |

A healthcare professional, I started my career as a "Biomedical Scientist". I moved into healthcare management in the 1980s and have since worked in a wide variety of roles and organisations, inside and outside the NHS. I am actively involved in several healthcare organisations and networks.
I look forward to meeting UCLH patients, families and carers, to help better understand the good and not so good aspects of patient care and experience and I will strive to make improvements wherever possible.
As a new Governor, I welcome this opportunity to make a positive contribution to patient care and to UCLH. | | back to top |

I am a Carer Governor, and trained as a beauty therapist which was a totally different role to which I found myself in. My Daughter was born with a complex condition and I have been involved with her care for the past 20 years. With this role it was a steep learning curve in the medical world. This role found me taking a position as Special Needs Governor of my Daughter's school.
I also have been Chair of My Daughter's charity for some years. I hope to bring my experience as a Carer Governor to help others in my position. | | back to top |

I was elected to the governing body in September 2010. Medical & Dental
I was elected as a governor in September 2010. I am a consultant ophthalmic surgeon working across three Trust sites; this gives me direct experience of the delivery of medical care within a complex organisation.
I am well placed to represent my constituency; I have first hand experience of trying to balance the different facets of our working lives, namely giving each patient the very best care possible and meeting the daily managerial challenge. I believe it is important the staff viewpoint is represented at the governing body and I aim to ensure that this view is considered and understood. | | back to top |

I wish to contribute to the Governing Body by bringing my knowledge, skill and an in-depth awareness of the many issues and concerns that are of prime importance to staff, patients and visitors and use these to help improve both the staff and patient experience. | | back to top |

The Non-Clinical Staff class
I have worked at the Trust 7 years and have been a governor since August 2010. I am Head of Workforce for the Specialist Hospitals Board and the Trust lead for equality and diversity matters. I believe that a good staff experience at work has a positive impact on the patient experience.
All staff should have the opportunity to have their views listened to. Working in human resources gives me a valuable insight into the issues and concerns of staff and this puts me in a good position to take these forward at the governing body. | | back to top |
