UCLH STATEMENT ON MARIO SCARAMELLA
Mario Scaramella remains well in University College Hospital where he is under observation and continues to show no symptoms of radiation poisoning.
Tests are ongoing to establish what level of polonium-210 is in Mr Scaramella’s body. There is no evidence to suggest that this is five times the lethal dose as has been reported by some media.

Statement read by Dr Keith Patterson, consultant haematologist UCLH
University College Hospital this evening admitted a further patient following radiation tests carried out after the tragic death of Alexander Litvinenko.
The patient in question is Mario Scaramella who met with Mr Litvinenko on November 1 before Mr Litvinenko was admitted to this hospital.
Tests have detected polonium-210 in Mr Scaramella’s body but at a considerably lower level than Mr Litvinenko. He is currently well and shows no symptoms of radiation poisoning. He is receiving further tests over the weekend.
We would like to reassure patients at University College Hospital and people who have been in contact with Mr Scaramella that this poses no risk to their health.
Mr Scaramella has requested that the media respects his privacy during his time here and we would ask you to not to interfere in the running of the hospital which might affect the welfare of our patients.
We do not anticipate making further statements to the media this weekend. Any updates will be posted on our website www.uclh.nhs.uk
