I have been a consultant at UCLH specialising exclusively in the medical treatment of breast cancer since 1997.
I trained in medicine in Cambridge. After completing HO & SHO jobs I worked as a registrar in general medicine at Whipps Cross. I developed my interest in breast cancer during my oncology training at St George's Hospital and at UCLH. Subsequently I undertook laboratory work on novel anti-cancer drugs at the Ludwig Institute and UCL, which was supported by an MRC fellowship.
I am concerned to improve breast cancer treatment. I run a clinical trials programme at UCLH and am a member of the NCRI Breast Clinical Studies Group and of the Translational Clinical Studies Group. I have adviced NICE on a number of technology appraisals, particularly docetaxel, paclitaxel and lapatinib.
