Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine

Integrated General Medicine Service

Professional background

I am one of two full-time consultants at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine. I graduated from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge in 1989, and from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1993. I was the first doctor in the UK to complete a joint training program in both orthodox and complementary medicine, and have recognised postgraduate qualifications in Alllergy, Western herbal medicine (phytotherapy), acupuncture and homeopathy.  I have been working at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine since 1996.

Research interests

I treat patients with a wide range of mostly chronic medical problems, using complementary medicine safely and effectively alongside orthodox medicine. In 2006 I set up the first NHS herbal medicine service at RLHIM, with products approved for safety and quality by UCLH Use of Medicines Committee. I have also set up Group Acupuncture Clinics for treatment of knee osteoarthritis, back and neck pain, and chronic headache. I also run UCLH Allergy Clinic. I am a Council member of the Collge of Practitioners of Phytotherapy.
