Professional background

Ulpee Darbar is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and is also on the specialist lists in Restorative Dentistry, Periodontology, Prosthodontics and Endodontics.   She is the Lead for dental implants at the Eastman as well as being Clinical Tutor for the trainees and Programme Director for the Dental SHOs.

She graduated from University of Wales college of Medicine in 1986 and after a brief period in general dental practice started her hospital career in 1987.  She successfully completed her training in Restorative Dentistry 1996 and took up her consultant position in 1997 including the role of Clinical Lead for the Department of Periodontology.  Shortly after being appointed she also  lead the Academic training programme for 1 year.  Since her appointment she has held several leadership positions at the Eastman which have included Clinical Audit Lead, Lead for Referrals and Programme Coordinator for Specialist Registrar. 

Her clinical focus lies in the management of patients with aggressive forms of periodontal disease as well as those with complex and multidisciplinary treatment needs including replacement and reconstruction of soft and hard tissue loss including teeth.   Her interests primarily include the use of bone and allograft materials for replacement of hard tissue and tooth replacement with dental implants as well as patients with aggressive forms of periodontal disease.  She maintains an active role in research and has been instrumental in establishing the patient pathways for research patients.  

She is extensively involved in the education and training at postgraduate level for dentists, specialists and dental care professionals focussing particularly on the perio-implant interface.  She holds an honoarary contract with the Univeristy and was awarded the UCLHT Chairmans medal for Excellence in Medical Education in 2011.  She is widely recognized for her specialist interests in periodontology and implantology and lectures and teaches widely in these topics.

She also holds a number of external positions for the Royal Colleges and specialist Societies.
