Tertiary referrals

University College London Hospital is the Principal Treatment Centre for North Thames, following national guidelines

  • teenagers aged between 13 -18 years with a confirmed diagnosis of cancer who live within the North Thames region must be referred to UCH.
  • young adults aged 19 - 24 years should be offered a choice of treatment at UCH or at a designated TYA hospital in the North Thames region. Irrespective of treating centre all patients must be discussed in the TYA MDT at UCH.

The TYA MDT is a psychosocial MDT, not a diagnostic MDT.

The function of the MDT is to support the treatment recommendations made by the site-specific MDT and to consider this in context of the psychosocial needs of the young person.
