Children and young people's urology

We care for children and young people of all ages for both urgent and non-urgent urology needs.

For the younger age group, we have a unique working relationship with the urology department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. All of our consultants who treat young children work across both hospitals so that our patients benefit from their specialist skills.

For patients aged 13-18 we have a dedicated team covering a range of conditions, particularly specialising in reconstructive urology. These patients have the added benefit of being cared for within our Adolescent Services.

  • Conditions treated

We provide care for children and young people with the following urological conditions:
    • Hypospadias and chordee
    • Absent or undescended testes
    • Testicular torsion or tumour
    • Testicular prostheses
    • Urethral stricture
    • Renal anomalies
    • Bladder/voiding dysfunction
    • Incontinence
    • Minor to severe congenital anomalies
    • Disorders of sexual development
  • Patient support services

Children and young people who require surgery will be seen in the nurse-led clinic before their surgery to discuss their surgical procedure and receive information about what to expect when having a general anaesthetic.

The urology team at UCLH recognise that urological problems and/or surgery can be very stressful. We have a psychological support team who can support if needed.
Our clinical nurse specialist  supports children, young people and their families before, during and after their care.
