Lung cancer

UCLH has a comprehensive lung cancer service and we see both local secondary referrals and tertiary referrals from across the UK. Our results ion the National Lung Cancer Audit are outstanding.

Conditions treated

Lung cancer, thymoma, mesothelioma and tracheal cancer.

We offer a rapid diagnosis clinic, scoring exceptionally well against national referral targets.

All of our thoracic surgery is performed at the University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street, where we provide dedicated specialist care by leading cardiothoracic surgeons.

Our service utilises clinical expertise set within an established academic environment that offers patients cutting edge technology to treat lung cancer.

We routinely use advanced modalities to treat lung cancer such as specialist scans incorporating tumour movement, PET to help define active disease, and CT and KV imaging during treatment to ensure accuracy and precision.

We offer 4DCT scanning, stereotactic radiotherapy, conformal treatment, IMRT (Intensity modulated Radiotherapy) and gated treatment delivery using coached breathing.

The goal of our highly skilled multidisciplinary radiotherapy team is to offer personalised, patient centred care and support in a modern, friendly environment.

We provide chemotherapy on an outpatient basis at UCH. We have the opportunity to offer the latest anticancer therapies within research trials. Our team includes leaders of national research trials

We offer a broad range of bronchoscopic techniques.

UCLH heads several national trials in chemotherapeutics, early diagnosis, and rapid diagnosis and staging of lung cancers. We are delighted to be chosen as a Cancer Research UK's first Lung Cancer Centre of Excellences together with Manchester in recognition of our strong track record, expertise and ambition in Lung Cancer research. The new centre is a key component of cancer Research UK's renewed focus to beat lung cancer.
