Dental Nurse training 

The Education Centre is based at the Eastman Dental Hospital, which is the only postgraduate dental hospital in the UK. Dentists from all over the world come to the hospital to take advanced training. All forms of dental treatment are undertaken from the straightforward and simple treatment to the most advanced techniques in dentistry.

The Eastman Dental Hospital Education Centre provides continual professional development for dental nurses, including pre- and post-registration and other certificated courses.

Courses

National Diploma Pre-registration Courses

Full-time Dental Nurse Course
One intake of 20 students each year.

Course criteria:

  • English Language GCSE (Grade A-C)* or equivalent
  • Mathematics (Grade A-C)* or equivalent
  • Biological Science GCSE (Grade A-C)* or equivalent
  • Plus one other GCSE(Grade A-C)* or equivalent
  • Age 18 or over
  • Hold a British or European Passport**
  • Interview selection process.

*Qualifications will need to be translated if not in English and verified by an independent body if they were not obtained in the UK.

**Candidates short-listed for interviews are asked to bring with them proof of status and original documentation/certificates.

Part-time Dental Nursing Course

Intake – Every January

  • 20 Days 9:30 – 4:00
  • Sit the written National Diploma in November

Course criteria:

  • Attend Course Presentation session with supervising dentist
  • English Language GCSE (Grade A-C)* or equivalent (Assessment of Suitability)
  • Secure a placement as an unqualified Dental Nurse and start working for at least 28 hours a week at the commencement of the course
  • Support from Employer
  • Access to a PC and email

National Diploma Revision

In preparation for the National Diploma - May and November

  • 1 day theory 
  • 1 day OSCE
  • 9.30 – 4.30 ( 6 hours)

Actively studying for National Diploma

Post-registration Courses

Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing
Intake – Every September
Examination: The following March

Certificate in Oral Health Education
Intake – Every September
Examination: The following March

Certificate in Dental Radiography
Intake – Every August
Examination: December

Certificate in Orthodontic Nursing*
Intake – Every December
Examination: The following June

  • *Must have four years' full-time experience following qualification, with the last two years in an orthodontic practice or department.

Criteria for the other Post-registration courses:

  • A qualified and registered dental nurse
  • Working within the specialism of the course
  • Certificate as appropriate
  • Attendance at the appropriate course presentation session
  • Have access to a PC and email


Courses include:

  • Face-to-face teaching
  • Completion of Record of Experience in the workplace
  • Practical assignments in the workplace
  • One-to-one sessions with course tutors

Presentation session:

  • Presentation by course tutor
  • Opportunity for question and answer
  • Completion of application form
  • Informal interview to assess suitability

The course fee does not include:

  • Record of experience
  • Examination fee
