UCLH is one of five TB centres for the North Central London TB Network and runs an outpatient based service on the ground floor of the Rosenheim Building. The TB service provides multidisciplinary clinics for suspected or confirmed adult and paediatric TB. The paediatric element is supported by Great Ormond Street Hospital. We also care for those with HIV/TB dual infection. There is a walk-in clinic held from 1.30-3.30pm on Mondays to ensure an accessible service. The clinic works closely with the pan-London mobile X-ray and 'Find and Treat' projects to support vulnerable patients. The clinic undertakes contact tracing, ‘new entrant’ screening and TB incident investigation.
We see and care for aduts and children with suspected or proven TB.
Approx 120 patients were notified to the service in 2009/10. Patients are seen within two weeks of referral and the service works towards meeting the pan-London targets such as a minimum treatment completion rate of 85%.
An identified TB nurse case manager is allocated to each TB patient to provide support during the treatment course. There is additional social work support in the clinic. Where necessary, patients may be admitted to the Infectious Diseases inpatient unit, T08 ward, for treatment.
