General Medicine

Our general medicine services aim to diagnose and advise patients with a range of medical problems.

The general medicine clinic is run by Dr Paul Glynne on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Referrals are accepted for any general medical conditions and the clinic can provide access to numerous specialties if required.

On Tuesday afternoons, a general and cardiovascular risk clinic is run by the academic medicine team. This clinic specialises in the diagnosis and management of secondary hypertension, complex essential hypertension, and patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors, but the highly-experienced staff have expertise in general medicine, clinical pharmacology, venous thromboembolism, heart failure and red cell membrane disorders. The clinic is staffed by four professors, a consultant physician and the academic junior doctors. Medical students are usually present. Consultants in the clinic can be contacted directly for advice about patients via the enquiry email address, these are Professors John Martin,  Gordon Stewart,  Aroon Hingorani,  Raymond MacAllister, with Drs Ross Breckenridge and Reecha Sofat Professor Macallister is a world expert in the management of functional disorders in general medicine.
