The Neurosurgical Critical Care Unit at NHNN treats the following conditions:

  • Head Injury
  • Subarachnoid haemorrhage
  • Intracerebal haemorrhage
  • Stroke
  • Brain tumours
  • Spine disorders
  • Spinal injury.

Service statistics

We admit around 800 patients per year, including emergency cases directly from Emergency Departments, critically ill patients referred from within UCLH and elective postoperative neurosurgical patients.

Patient aftercare

Patients and their families who have been treated in our unit receive one or more of the following aftercare:

  • Neurocritical care outreach service
  • Bereavement counselling
  • Clinical liaison nurse
