London Ambulance Service Assistant Medical Director Neil Thomson said: “If you think someone is suffering from an acute stroke you should call 999 for an ambulance immediately. Our staff are trained to assess patients and will take those showing symptoms of stroke directly to a HASU where they can be managed by a team of experts.” TIME IS BRAIN !
FAST requires an assessment of three specific symptoms of stroke.
- Facial weakness - can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
- Arm weakness - can the person raise both arms?
- Speech problems - can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
- Time to call 999
