Microbiology  

Microbiology comprises the departments:  Clinical Microbiology, Virology
Parasitology and Immunology.

The Department of Clinical Microbiology delivers a full range of clinical microbiological investigations including routine bacterial culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing, mycology culture, Chlamydia testing, mycobacterial culture, serology and antibiotic assays, some environmental testing and detection of MRSA using molecular techniques.

Virology provides routine and specialised testing service which is Consultant lead. The service has full accreditation with CPA (UK) Ltd.

Parasitology provides a specialist, consultant led, service. The laboratory supports all areas of the Trust with special emphasis on HTD and A&E. The laboratory is a world renowned reference centre for Parasitology and is the HPA parasite reference laboratory.

Immunology provides a specialist, consultant led, service. The laboratory supports all areas of the Trust, GP's, and also several outside hospitals and the private sector.
