Ophthalmology  

The ophthalmology department offers general ophthalmic services treating all common conditions such as cataract, glaucoma and problems with the eyelids or ocular surface. Specialist clinics are run for the diagnosis and treatment of retinal, paediatric and neuro-ophthalmic diseases as well as HIV-related problems in the eye.

  • Fundus fluorescein angiography
  • General eye disorders
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Inflammatory eye disease 
  • Low vision aid
  • Ocular motility disorders
  • Optic chiasmal disease
  • Optic nerve disease
  • Orbital disease
  • Orthoptics
  • Pupillary abnormalities
  • Retinal disease including diabetes
  • Thyroid eye disease
  • Visual fields 

We also provide:

  • Laser surgery (except refractive correction)
  • Neonatal screening
  • Paediatric eye treatment

Service performance

Normal waiting times are as follows:
  • Four to thirteen weeks for routine outpatient appointments 
  • Four months for inpatient admissions.
