Follow up appointments

You may need a follow up appointment.  The receptionist may arrange this for you at the time, but if not we will write to you.    After your appointment we will write to your GP.  Please let us know if you do not want copies of these letters.


If the doctor or nurse decides that medication is required and it is necessary for treatment to start immediately, you will be given a prescription for a minimum of two weeks' supply from the hospital.  After this time you will need to get a further supply from your GP.  Prescriptions given to you by your doctor or nurse must be collected from the Hospital Pharmacy.  You cannot take them to your local chemist. There is a standard prescription charge per item.  You can pay by cash or credit card. 

Some medicines prescribed in the hospital may be of animal origin. If you have any concerns related to this please ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.

Many people are entitled to medications free or can get help with costs.  If you receive Income Support, Family Credit or hold an AG2 or AG3 certificate you may be exempt from paying prescription charges or fares, but please bring proof of exemption with you e.g. your benefit book.  To find out more about entitlements, contact the NHS Business Services Authority on 0845 850 0030.

Pharmacy locations and opening times:

  • University College Hospital: Ground floor, UCH Atrium. 9am – 7pm Mon and Wed, and 9am – 5.30pm Tue, Thu and Fri.
  • National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery: 3rd Floor, 8-11 Queens Square.  9am – 5 pm Mon- Fri. 
  • University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street:  Ground floor, main corridor 9am – 5pm Mon to Fri and 10am -1pm on Saturday.

Taxis home

After your appointment, if you need a taxi to take you home we have a designated taxi phone situated on the south side of the ground floor to book your taxis. Any member of staff can direct you to the taxi phone. If you are a taxi card holder please go to the transport desk in the main foyer (the atrium) on the ground floor who can order a taxi for you, but you will have to pay for it yourself.
