Infection prevention and control is one of the highest priorities at UCLH NHS Foundation Trust. We strongly believe that infection control is a core responsibility of every member of staff and one of the fundamentals to ensuring safe care.
We therefore expect patients to be cared for in well maintained facilities and a clean environment; looked after by staff who are knowledgeable and trained in infection control practices.
Staff and patients at UCLH are supported by a specialist infection control team whose primary function is to:
- Prevent the spread of infections to other patients whilst in our care
- Control any infections present
- Advise on treating infections appropriately
- Ensure staff are trained in infection control measures
- Monitor infection control practice
- Advise on equipment; furnishings, refurbishments and new buildings.
The infection prevention and control team includes:
- Director of infection prevention and control (DIPC)
- Nurse consultant in infection control
- Hospital epidemiologist
- Divisional senior nurse (matron)
- General manager
- Infection control doctors (Medical Microbiologists, Virologists, Infectious Disease Physicians)
