Patient condition checks will only be provided if we have consent from the patient or their next of kin. Condition checks can only be handled if we have the full name, date of birth and address of the patient concerned.
Only a brief indication of the progress of the patient will be given such, as comfortable, stable or critical.
If the patient or their next of kin has specifically requested that no information be released to the media about their condition then their wishes will be respected.
The only exception is where a patient or former patient, or those acting on his or her behalf, has already invited the media to report on his or her treatment. Where the resulting media coverage contains inaccuracies or unfair criticism, UCLH may wish to comment in public, using factual information to correct misleading reporting.
