About the new clinical facility

In autumn 2019, services currently provided at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, and Eastman Dental Hospital will move to their new home, on Huntley Street. This new facility will be a world-leading centre for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat and mouth including dental, hearing, speech and balance services. Situated on the site of the former UCL Students’ Union building and the Royal Ear Hospital, the centre will be right at the heart of the University College Hospital campus. It is called the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals.

Services will be based in two floors below ground, and five above ground. Two floors are dedicated to dental treatment, an entire floor is provided for children and young people, and patients with ENT, sleep, speech, hearing and balance issues will be seen in modern surroundings with integrated pathways and services. There will be entrances on both Huntley Street and Shropshire Place. Theatres, wards and sleep diagnostics will remain at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital on Gray's Inn Road until 2020 when the construction of our other major new centre is complete.

We are really proud of the heritage themes in the new Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals. The façade includes the Duveen Memorial stone from the Royal Ear Hospital (which was demolished to enable the construction of the new building). An arts and heritage project based on the memories of staff and patients will create art for the interior of the new facility, and in March 2018 patients and staff contributed to a time capsule which is encased within the entrance of the new facility. The content of the capsule commemorated innovations in treatments and services, with a model of cochlear ear implant, dental moulds and plain film x-rays amongst the items.
