About us

  • Who are we?

We are one of the largest sarcoma services in Europe with an international reputation for providing the highest quality of care to patients with sarcoma. We provide a comprehensive service to patients of all ages from the first consultation, through investigation, to treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up, seeing about 500 new patients with sarcoma each year. Most patients are treated on one or both of two sites RNOH and UCLH.

The London Sarcoma Service and the Sarcoma Unit of the Royal Marsden Hospital together provide specialist sarcoma services within the London and South East Sarcoma Network. Patients with soft tissue sarcoma may be referred to either service. All bone sarcomas are referred to the London Sarcoma Service.

  • Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH)

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is located on two sites. The main hospital is located at Stanmore, Middlesex and there is also an Outpatient Assessment Centre located at Bolsover Street in Central London. The RNOH is a dedicated specialist orthopaedic hospital, which incorporates the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science (University of London). It is also home to the Sarcoma Unit, which undertakes the surgical treatment of patients (children, young people and adults) with bone tumours and soft tissue sarcomas of the limb, trunk and spine.

  • University College London Hospital (UCLH)

University College Hospital, located in central London is part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a large teaching hospital associated with University College London, a recognised research centre of excellence. A large number of patients with cancer are treated in the Department of Oncology, which includes the Sarcoma Unit, offering radiotherapy and chemotherapy to patients with soft tissue and bone sarcomas.

  • Other sites

In addition, a number of other specialist teams link in to provide surgery for sarcomas arising in non-limb and trunk sites. These teams are located at UCLH, The Royal Free Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and the Royal Brompton Hospital, and together with the Sarcoma Units at UCLH and RNOH form the London Sarcoma Service.
