Staff and patients are being urged to nominate their NHS heroes for a new national staff recognition scheme.

my NHS hero

A cup of tea. A hand to hold. A shoulder to lean on. A few words of comfort. These are just a few of the things that thousands of NHS heroes provide every day to make sure that each and every patient receives the very best care.

Marking the 64th anniversary of the NHS, the national NHS Heroes recognition scheme is open to all staff. They aim to recognise members of NHS staff who go that extra mile and patients, the public and staff are being encouraged to submit nominations. Anyone nominated between now and mid September will receive a recognition certificate signed by David Nicholson, chief executive of the NHS.

Andrew Lansley, health secretary, said: "Staff across the NHS in England carry out fantastic work every day - going the extra mile to make a real difference to people’s lives. The NHS Heroes scheme is a chance for everyone to formally recognise these staff and thank them for their hard work, passion and dedication.”

To nominate your NHS Hero, please fill in an online form at http://www.nhsheroes.com
