Hopkins Architects, who designed the building, and Skanska Contruction, who built it, won in the health category at the New London Awards at the Guildhall in the City.
The New London Awards honour the capital’s very best architecture, planning and development. They celebrate the best schemes in the capital both built and on the drawing board, temporary and permanent – giving recognition to the impact projects have on their surroundings and their contribution to London as well as to their architectural quality.
Patrick Nee, partner at Hopkins Architects who designed the centre, said: "We are delighted that the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre has won this prestigious award . It is an acknowledgement of the vision and committment of UCLH, Macmillan Cancer Support and the talented team of doctors, nurses, consultants and other healthcare professionals who have been involved in designing a centre which truly focusses on the needs of patients."
Kieran McDaid, director of capital investment at UCLH, said: “Very few truly innovative hospitals are now built. But with pride the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre team have delivered a magnificent new building that has the needs of cancer patients and the environment at its heart. In its creation the rule book for providing cancer care was torn up in favour of a space that humanises and responds to the needs of the patients at every stage of their care.”

All shortlisted projects will feature in a 12-month exhibition at the NLA galleries at The Building Centre and the 2012/2013 edition of the New London book.
