Ain’t no mountain high enough!

There’s no mountain too high for UCLH patient and charity ambassador Roger Mackenzie who is getting on his bike to scale the Pyrenees and raise money for cancer services at UCLH.

Roger MacKenzie, third from left, was treated for prostate cancer at UCLH four years ago. Since then, he’s raised more than £30,000 for the UCH Cancer Fund, part of UCLH Charity. This June, he’s co-ordinating a bike ride through the Pyrenees – and he wants you to join him.

“I am now fit, well and back in the saddle, thanks to the ground-breaking treatment I received at UCLH," Roger said.

"I want to support research so that future generations can benefit from even more advanced treatment for prostate cancer. My experience at UCLH was nothing short of excellent, so raising money for the UCH Cancer Fund is an obvious choice for me."

Roger’s passion for cycling in the mountains of Europe spans 25 years. He has a group of friends and family – aka ‘Team Bike’ that ride regularly for fun and to raise money.

Last year, he joined the UCLH challenge from Amsterdam to London.

“It was a great experience – the camaraderie was brilliant. Staff who work at UCLH in different roles bonded and got to know each other on those long stretches of road!”

Inspired by last year’s challenge, Roger is leading and co-ordinating the two day Pyrenees challenge this June. “It will be a small group of us cycling through some of the world’s most breath taking mountains. I’d love to get staff, patients and some of my cycling buddies together, to do something truly memorable for a special cause."

There are eight spaces left on the Pyrenees Challenge which takes place from 28-30 June 2019.

The registration fee is £300 and we ask you raise a minimum of £800 in sponsorship - our fundraising team is here to help you reach your target. There will also be cycling training sessions and advice to get you mountain-fit.
