The University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre features in an upcoming film being released in cinemas nationwide on September 25.

The film is Miss You Already, about the pressures of a cancer diagnosis brought to bear on a lifelong friendship.

In the film, Toni Collette gets treatment for her cancer and Drew Barrymore gives birth to her baby at University College Hospital.

The film itself, written by Morwenna Banks and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, is both heart-warming and heart-breaking, a tale of female friendship, loyalty and strength.

The film billing reads: “They say opposites attract. Milly (Toni Collette) is the woman who has everything: a successful career; a devoted husband and two beautiful children. Her best friend is Jess (Drew Barrymore), who works in a community garden, lives in a boathouse with her boyfriend Jago and desperately wants a baby.

“Friends since childhood, Jess and Milly can't remember a time they didn't share everything - secrets, clothes, even boyfriends. Their differences are the glue that binds them together. That is until Milly is hit with the life changing news that she has breast cancer and needs Jess' support more than ever.

“As Jess tries to balance her own life as well as being there for Milly it is only a matter of time before the pressure on their bond takes its toll.”

The scenes at the cancer centre were filmed over one day in November 2014 and the exterior of the building can be seen in the trailer here.

The cancer centre opened in 2012 and is now a busy centre providing facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cancer and non-cancer conditions alongside Macmillan support and information services for patients, their carers and families. More information about the centre here.

The film opens at cinemas nationwide on 25 September.
