Care for an ice-cream?

A new high-protein ice-cream has been taste-tested by some patients at University College Hospital as part of a trial organised by UCLH’s (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) nutrition and dietetic team. 
 

The tubs of strawberry and vanilla ice each contain around 200 calories and 20g of protein (the same amount as in an average chicken breast) – ideal for those patients who need a protein boost to help wounds heal.
 
The cool treat could be particularly helpful to those patients recovering from pressure ulcers, or who are experiencing severe loss of appetite.
 
TKumaran Thevan (pictured), a patient who was injured when a truck overturned in Kenya, was one of those asked to vote for his favourite brand in terms of flavour, consistency, smell and branding.

Kumaran said: “Mmm – I prefer this one – it’s more like ice-cream. The other tastes like frozen yoghurt. They are both quite nice though.”
 
Patient feedback will be used by UCLH’s nutrition and dietetic team decide which ice-cream company will win the contract to supply UCLH with their brand.
