Carers’ Rights Day

03/12/2012 00:00

It was Carers’ Rights Day last Friday.  This Carers UK awareness day focused on ‘getting help in tough times’.

Carers’ Rights Day

At UCLH, we are working hard to support carers, as chief nurse Katherine Fenton says “We value the essential support that carers provide for patients and have listened to their views about how we can best support them.  Based on their feedback, today sees the start of a number of new initiatives to help support the thousands of carers who provide such invaluable support to the patients treated at our hospitals.  From the launch of a new policy which formally recognises carers and involves them in decision making to an informal new carers’ coffee morning planned to start early next year, we hope that we can make the experience of being a carer that bit better".  The new policy will be implemented across the Trust with a planned series of actions to make sure that it is fully embedded and becomes part of the way that we do things at UCLH.

UCLH produces a Carers Information and Rights Leaflet – please feel free to download it and pass it on to anyone you think might benefit.
