Going behind the scenes, Jon Snow hears how proton beam therapy will help treat specific cancers.

He also see the safe delivery of a key part of one of the treatment gantries which direct the proton beam to the patient.

Watch the piece here.

The site, on Grafton Way, is where we are building an 11 storey facility for proton beam therapy, short stay surgery and blood disorders and is due to open in 2020. You can find out more about the new building in this film where Geoff Bellingan, Medical Director, Surgery and Cancer Board talks about how this new facility will transform care for patients. He is joined by Yen Ching Chang, Oscar Fernandez-Saborit, Divisional Manager Theatres and Anaesthetic, and Tom Marler-Hausen, Matron at the Macmillan Cancer Centre, who showcase the different services in the building.

Finally, take a front row seat in this film which follows the delivery of the cyclotron on 19 June 2018. A major milestone for the project, we celebrated this event with key partners from NHS England, the construction company and patients. During this film you will take a front row seat and see how this 90 tonne piece of equipment made it safely into the building.
