Prestigious awards have been handed out at UCLH by Ruth May, the chief nursing officer for England, and Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE, the first chief midwifery officer for England.

The Chief Nursing and Chief Midwifery Officer awards have been developed to recognise and reward the significant and outstanding contribution made by nurses and midwives in England and their exceptional contribution to nursing and midwifery practice.

Awards were presented to:

  • Maureen McCabe
  • Stephanie Wilson
  • Debra Kroll
  • Haematology podcast team
  • the Hyperacute Stroke Unit
  • Katie Tracey
  • Pamela Stephenson

As well as presenting the awards, Professor Dunkley-Bent was given a tour of the birthing centre and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing and Ruth had the opportunity to visit two of our inpatient wards who were recently recognised in our Exemplar Ward Accreditation programme.

Chief nurse Flo Panel-Coates said: “It was an honour to welcome Ruth and Jacqueline to UCLH and showcase a few examples where our professions are leading the way to improve the care our patients receive across a broad spectrum of services and facilities. We look forward to sharing more in the future.

“Well done to everyone who was nominated - I am sure it was a very difficult task to choose from so many deserving and dedicated staff.”

Head of midwifery, Natilla Henry, added: “It was a real privilege to have Ruth and Jacqueline take the time to visit us here at UCLH and such a proud moment for our midwives to meet the first Chief Midwifery Officer for England and showcase examples of how midwives are positively impacting the care and experience of women.”
