A series of coffee, cake and cookie sales raised more than £3,200 – and lots of smiles.

Nicola Panara, Kat Lewis, Kassie Montanheiro and the Support and Information Team from the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre, helped organise the local event.

“It was absolutely buzzing – the atmosphere was fantastic,” said Nicola, who works in the Macmillan Support and Information centre.

The sales were held in the Cancer Centre, UCH atrium and T9 (thanks to the ‘‘T-Niners’’!) with generous donations from staff, patients and local businesses. L’Express at 250 Euston Road donated the proceeds from coffee sales during a two hour period. At UCH, Interserve donated milk, coffee, sugar and urns, and staff from T9 and Imaging donated lots of cakes.

A number of local shops and businesses generously gave cakes and raffle prizes including Boots, Bordeaux Index, Chancery Court Hotel, Debenhams, the Grafton Hotel, John Lewis, Loaf, M&S, Planet Organic, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. Patients and their families also kindly contributed.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event of the year. The money raised is used to fund Macmillan’s support services for people with cancer and their families.  Supporters hold their own coffee mornings in their homes, work places or local communities. The overall fundraising target is £10.8 million.

The new Cancer Centre is the embodiment of our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support who bring 100 years’ experience of developing innovative, ground-breaking services, which put the needs of patients and families at the heart of cancer care.
