The UCLH Endoscopy Unit finished 2012 with a flourish – living up to its status as a leader in the field in the NHS.
Endoscopy Unit begins 2013 on a high

In September, The London Live Endoscopy course was held at UCH, with 120 endoscopy consultants, trainees, and nurses attending from the UK and beyond (including Sweden, India, Ireland, Estonia, and Poland).
The UCH and UK expert faculty were joined by international endoscopy experts, including the heads of endoscopy from Mayo Clinic, and the Amsterdam Medical Centre.
The two day course, which is now the biggest of its kind in the UK, covered all aspects of interventional endoscopy, through live endoscopy, state-of-the-art lectures, tricks and tips breakout sessions, and industry-led mini-tutorials.
Live endoscopies were transmitted in parallel from three endoscopy rooms at UCH to the Education Centre across the dual carriageway at 250 Euston Road.
A highlight of the meeting was the dinner, held in the Houses of Parliament, preceded by a fascinating tour of the House of Commons and Lords.
Course director and UCLH gastroenterologist Dr George Webster said: "The course was lively, interactive, and fun, and we hope will enhance endoscopic decision-making and management by all involved. The feedback has been excellent, and we're delighted that the Olympics and Diamond Jubilee were not the only successful events in London in 2012!"
Meanwhile in November, UCLH was designated as the first UK ‘Centre of Excellence’ for endoscopy, by Cook Medical, one of the largest endoscopy companies in the world.
The award is given to only a small number of hospitals globally, and reflects UCLH’s position as a national centre of excellence in patient care, endoscopic training and innovation. The award ceremony was attended by members of the endoscopy unit and GI Services Division, and Richard Murley, UCLH chairman.
