Anna Magnowska has drawn on her nurse training to explore the heart from a medical and emotional perspective.

“The exhibition looks at how we use our various body parts in terms of love and loss, rather than simply how the heart pumps blood around the body. The work has an anatomical theme and is very colourful, modern and provocative and is influenced by my training as a nurse,” she said.

Anna worked as a freelance illustrator for a number of publications before deciding to train as a nurse. She qualified last August and now works on T16 north, oncology.

“I decided to do something completely different and nursing has gripped me, although I continue to paint and illustrate in my spare time. My exhibition marries the two worlds – the medical view of body parts and organs with how ordinary, non medical people view them.”

The exhibition is being held at the East Gallery on Brick Lane from 4 - 10 June.

You can view Anna’s work at Hearts of Hostage or at her own website.
