The UCLH documentary Curing Cancer, filmed over 12 months at the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in 2013, has been nominated for a prestigious Grierson award.

The Grierson Trust organises the annual British Documentary Awards and commemorates the pioneering Scottish documentary maker John Grierson.

The one-hour documentary, directed by Brian Woods for Truevision, followed four patients involved in trials of advanced new treatments and diagnostic procedures, and the doctors at UCLH who are leading the way.

It was broadcast in October 2014 as part of Cutting Edge, Channel 4's flagship documentary series and was seen by a million people on the night it was first aired.

Director Brian Woods said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Curing Cancer has been honoured with a nomination for the awards that are known as 'the Oscars of documentary'.

"It was a huge team effort making this film, not only the production team and the patients, but all the many UCLH staff who took part.  I hope that everyone we came into contact with while making this film is just as proud as I am of this achievement."
