Junior doctors’ industrial action

08/02/2016 00:00
The British Medical Association has confirmed that its junior doctor members have voted to take industrial action from 8am Wednesday 10 February to 8am Thursday 11 February in a national dispute over a proposed new contract. They will be providing emergency cover only.

We have been working hard at UCLH to try to minimise disruption to our patients and to provide safe care during the 24-hour industrial action.

We are continuing with the majority of our planned services but unfortunately we are having to reschedule some non-urgent operations and outpatient clinic appointments. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Our services are already under pressure due to a rise in the number of patients with winter illnesses and the industrial action is likely to intensify this.

We are currently contacting those patients likely to be affected to rebook their appointments. If you do not hear from us, please assume your appointment is going ahead as planned and come to our hospital. You may have to wait longer than normal so please give yourself extra time on the day.

As there will be reduced services as a result of the action, you should avoid coming to our hospitals unless it is an emergency or you have a planned appointment that is going ahead. Please use other services where appropriate, such as your local GP practice, walk-in centres or pharmacies, for advice and treatment.

For further information please visit the BMA website.
