New Trust values – an opportunity to get involved

Have your chance to help shape the Trust in the future by offering feedback on a set of draft values that will help improve the experience of being cared for and working at UCLH.

In January, the Trust launched its ‘Making a Difference Together’ campaign to improve patient experience.  One of the first steps in this effort is the creation of a set of Trust values to guide all of our activity. We invite you to input into the draft values we have developed.

In drafting these values we listened to patients, in a number of ‘In Your Shoes’ sessions, and had input from over 600 members of staff who left more than 2,000 individual comments on the staff ‘Graffiti Boards’ – describing the qualities of care they value.  This feedback has been used to draw up a draft set of values. 

Kara Gelb, patient experience programme lead, said: “If our vision describes our ambition and our objectives describe what we do as an organisation, our values guide how we do it. Our values will become a part the way we work, the way we recruit and appraise our teams, the way we care for our patients and colleagues, and the way we measure and improve their experience.”

The image below shows the draft values – four simple words – that have emerged from what hundreds of staff and patients have said.  Each value is embedded into a sentence to put it into context, the phrases below are the behaviours that are connected to the value.

Out of hours
