New UCLH facility at Cleveland Street opens today

04/04/2016 00:00
Today, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Cleveland Street opens to patients on the site of the old Middlesex Hospital. This new, purpose-designed facility will be home to the pain management centre, previously based at Queen Square.

Following the move, the pain management centre's outpatient appointments, procedures and pain management programmes will all be in one location, making it easier for patients. As well as enabling improvements to and expansion in the pain management service, the relocation also means there is space to expand facilities at Queen Square to support our brain tumour and surgical services. The staff providing the pain management service remain the same.
Gill Gaskin, medical director, specialist hospital board commented: “Relocating the pain management centre to this new purpose development is part of our plan to improve care for all of our patients. The new facility is bright, spacious and designed to meet the needs of the specific patient groups which will be using the building.”

Two other services are also using the Cleveland Street facility:

• National prion service outpatient appointments will be based at Cleveland Street, and

• One day a week, the facility will be used by multiple sclerosis services for disease modifying treatment screening, education clinics and to administer some multiple sclerosis treatments.
