Patients positive about UCLH

UCLH has improved its performance in the national inpatient survey and continues to be rated highly by the patients we treat.

Over 350 UCLH inpatients responded to the national survey in August 2013 and the results were published this week. Overall, patients rated their care as over eight out of ten with UCLH the second best performing trust in London.

Trusts are rated as ‘better’, ‘about the same’, or ‘worse’ than expected. UCLH did not score 'worse' in any category, but scored ‘about the same’ as expected in all ten categories covering areas such as the performance of doctors, nurses and the hospital/ward environment.

In general the results showed UCLH's ability to sustain a consistently high standard of patient care with no significant improvement, but - against an increasingly challenging environment - no significant decline, since last year's survey.

Sandra Hallett, director of quality and safety, said: “It is pleasing to see patients continue to rate their care highly – this result actually showed some improvement compared to last year which is a great result in the current climate where staff are working hard to maintain quality services.”

The results published this week by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), show UCLH was the second best performing Trust amongst our peer group in London.  Our scores remained much the same this year, whereas a number of trusts in our peer group performed less well than last year.

Sir Robert Naylor, UCLH chief executive, said: “I would like to thank all staff for ensuring we maintain our high level of performance.  But we need to improve next year. We take these survey results seriously – this is patient feedback that we must use to help improve the patient experience and deliver customer service excellence.”
