The President of Malta visited the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the University College Hospital at Westmoreland Street last week to thank staff for their care of Maltese patients who come to the UK for treatment.

The President was on her annual London visit to hospitals who treat Maltese patients who cannot obtain specialist treatment locally. She was visiting in her capacity as chairperson of the Malta Community Chest Fund, a charity which funds treatment abroad for Maltese patients.

Her Excellency Marie Louise Coleiro thanked staff at both hospitals for their significant contribution in ensuring Maltese patients and their relatives receive the best possible care during their UK stay.

“We are all so grateful for the care and attention that Maltese patients receive from London hospitals," she said.

She was greeted by interim chief executive Neil Griffiths, who said: “We are incredibly proud of our multicultural workforce and our Maltese colleagues play their part in making this one of the leading trusts in the NHS. I hope we were able to demonstrate to the President some of the outstanding work we do at UCLH and the contribution our Maltese staff make.”

During her visit, the President also met Maltese staff who work at UCLH including pathology clinical director Mary Falzon, neurosurgeon Ludvic Zrinzo, neurology SPR Shawn Agius, nurse lecturer Rachel Leaver and consultant histopathologist Elaine Borg.
