A consultant nurse is thrilled to have been highlighted as one of 100 outstanding nurses in the country.
John Welch, nurse consultant for critical care and critical care outreach (PERRT) and trust sepsis lead, has been included on the list compiled by Twitter community group We Nurses.
The list aims to celebrate "100 registered nurses who have made an impact in nursing in 2018". Each person had to be nominated and then endorsed by other colleagues.
John, who is also one of the authors of the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), and President of the International Society for Rapid Response Systems, was nominated by critical care matron Elaine Thorpe.
Elaine said in her nomination: “I nominate John Welch. He has led on deteriorating patient at scale - a global expert.
“No doubt he has saved many lives and his work is understated. He truly is a remarkable patient champion and mentor.”
John said: “I feel very honoured and humbled to be included.
“It’s a wonderful thing to be given an accolade from your colleagues.
“I am part of three fantastic teams – in ICU, outreach, critical care and research – and this is all down to them as well.”
