UCLH supports Stay Well This Winter

UCLH is supporting a national campaign to help people with long-term health conditions and the over-65s stay well during the winter.

Stay Well This Winter is an NHS-led campaign focusing on winter health advice including staying warm and eating well, along with detailed guidance on how to treat common winter illnesses such as the flu and norovirus.

The key themes of the campaign are being implemented at UCLH during our discharge process for elderly and vulnerable patients to ensure that we are sending patients home safely.

Josie Gladney, matron, medical specialities and infection, said: “Before our patients go home we have a conversation with them or their loved ones to make sure they have healthy food and heating at home, and we advise them on what they should do if they feel unwell.

“We contact social services if necessary to ensure that the patient has the support they need – we work very much as a team to ensure that the discharge is safe. UCLH’s team of very obliging and helpful volunteers are also on-hand to do a basic food shop for patients before they go home.”
