UCLH welcomes new Secretary of State

11/07/2018 00:00
The new Secretary of State for Health and Social care visited UCLH yesterday – just hours after taking on the role.

Matt Hancock, who succeeds Jeremy Hunt, met with our staff to hear about their experiences of working in the NHS and to see first-hand the innovative work happening at UCLH.

The Secretary of State visited interventional radiology, critical care and the phase four site where he saw the 90-tonne cancer fighting cyclotron which was delivered to UCLH last month. The cyclotron will be the beating heart of our new proton beam therapy centre when it opens in 2020.

UCLH chief executive Marcel Levi said: “It was a real privilege to be the first trust that Matt Hancock chose to visit after taking on the role of Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

“I was very proud to introduce him to our amazing staff who spoke passionately about the rewards and challenges of working in the NHS.

“We were also delighted to give him a flavour of the innovative developments happening at UCLH, including our new cyclotron, which will transform the lives of hundreds of cancer patients every year.”
