UCLH welcomes new health minister

The new minister of state for health met staff in our Emergency Department yesterday in his first visit to an NHS trust since being appointed last week.

Chris Skidmore MP talked with several members of staff about their experiences of working in a busy London ED. He also met our senior leaders to discuss UCLH’s priorities and future plans.

Mr Skidmore said: “It was excellent to meet the team at UCLH during my first visit as health minister.

“I heard from both the leadership team and frontline staff about the initiatives they're using to reduce the amount of time patients have to spend in hospital, the work they are doing on the cutting-edge of research and innovation and the local challenges they're facing.

"I am excited to get started in my role as health minister and look forward to working together with them to tackle those issues, as well as celebrating the opening of their world-leading proton beam therapy centre next year."

UCLH chief executive Marcel Levi said: “It was a real privilege to be the first trust that Chris Skidmore chose to visit since becoming health minister.

“He saw first-hand what a fantastic job our emergency department staff do around-the-clock in often very challenging circumstances.

“Despite the pressures, there is always a great sense of camaraderie within the team and desire to do the very best for every patient that comes through our doors.

“I am very proud to work alongside such committed individuals.”
