UCL to acquire Eastman Dental Hospital

27/03/2018 00:00
We have completed a deal to sell the Eastman Dental Hospital (EDH) site to UCL and, as part of the agreement, we will acquire majority ownership of Queen Square House.

This deal is great news for UCLH. The funds from the sale are essential for the development of the new award-winning facility on Huntley Street that will be the new home for the EDH, alongside the Royal National Ear Nose and Throat Hospital (RNTNEH) in 2019. The extra space in Queen Square House will will create much needed capacity in a constrained location when the UCL team moves from QSH to EDH in around five years time.

UCL plans to use the EDH site as a new home for the UCL Institute of Neurology (ION) and the UK Dementia Research Institute (DRI).

Marcel Levi, CEO of UCLH said, “This is fantastic news. The proceeds from the sale will make a significant contribution to the costs of the new facility on Huntley Street, which will provide our world-leading dental and ear nose and throat specialists with a world class building.

It is also great that the current EDH site will remain within the wider UCL/UCLH family and that the Queen Square House site remains available for future expalnsion of clinical neurology and research. I look forward to hearing about the fantastic research and collaboration that will take place in the future there.”
