Welcome Marcel! UCLH’s new CEO starts today

Today Professor Marcel Levi joins UCLH as our new chief executive.

Marcel comes to UCLH from the Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam, where he had been chairman of the executive board since 2010. For the previous ten years, he was chairman of its Department of Medicine and Division of Medical Specialisms.

Marcel was named Dutchman of the Year 2016 by a leading magazine in the Netherlands, in recognition of his distinguished career as a clinician, academic, educator and clinical leader.

Among his many other accolades are being named the best specialist in internal medicine in the Netherlands for three consecutive years, and students of the University of Amsterdam have named him best clinical teacher three times in the past five years.

Marcel studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam. He is a consultant physician, specialising in haemostasis, thrombosis and vascular medicine and will continue his clinical practice at UCLH. He obtained his PhD in 1991 and continues to lead an active research programme. He has had more than 500 research papers published in international journals.

“I am delighted to be joining an organisation as prestigious as UCLH,” said Marcel.

“I have already made several visits to UCLH and I have been very impressed with the care and compassion staff show to patients and how committed teams are to being leaders in education and research.

“I am very much looking forward to leading UCLH in this next chapter of its history.”
