Professional background

Doris is a Consultant in Audiovestibular Medicine at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Senior Lecturer at the UCL Ear Institute. She is also is an  Honorary Consultant at the RNTNE Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
After completing specialty training in ENT in Greece, she completed training in Audiological Medicine in the UK. During her training, she undertook a three-month funded fellowship in Professor Musiek’s department in the States , where she was trained in the diagnosis and management of patients with auditory processing disorders. Her PhD degree is on auditory processing in patients with structural brain lesions.

She has been Director and Organiser of the Current Trends in Auditory Processing Disorders instructional courses for the past several years, and lecturer and chairperson at the Dizzinesss Course held at the national. She is immediate past Secretary of the British Society of Audiology (BSA), and immediate past Chair of the Auditory Processing Disorders Special Interest Group of the same Society.She is adviser in Audiology to the JLO, and in the Editorial Board of the Audiological Medicine journal.

Research interests

Dr Bamiou has a keen interest in research. Research interests include auditory processing disorders in the normal population and in the presence of other neurological conditions , auditory neuropathy, tinnitus, vestibular rehabilitation, balance in the elderly and psychiatric overlap with vestibular disorders.
