Blood diseases (clinical haematology) at UCLH

UCLH has become the largest blood diseases treatment centre in Europe with 76 inpatient beds and a comprehensive day care service. As well as being a regional referral centre the service is the main treatment centre for patients from north and east London and west Essex.

We employ over 200 specialist nursing staff, nearly 30 consultants and a large multidisciplinary team of expert support staff.

Our service offers diagnosis and treatment for a comprehensive range of blood disorders including cancer and non-cancer conditions. We aim to offer the latest treatments complemented by first class support services to provide personalised care of the highest quality.

Patients are treated at University College Hospital and the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in a state-of-the-art environment using pioneering technology. The Cancer Centre is next to the UCL Cancer Institute, making the transition of research findings into patient care quicker.

In 2020, the service will transfer to a brand new facility for inpatient clinical haematology, expanding to over 80 inpatient haematology beds with a dedicated intensive care unit, putting it amongst the most state of the art blood disease treatment facilities of its kind in the world. The new facility will also be one of only two centres in the UK to provide proton beam therapy.
