Referral guidelines

Referrals should be addressed to:

Overview of the service

  • The service is led by Kay Eaton, Consultant Nurse in Cancer and Supportive Care.
  • The lymphoedema team consists of two Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Specialist Physiotherapist.
  • The service provides assessment, diagnosis, conservative treatment and ongoing management of cancer-related lymphoedema. At present we do not provide a service for children under the age of 13 who have lymphoedema.
  • The lymphoedema clinic is located on the lower ground floor of the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre.
  • The service operates from Monday to Friday.
  • A new patient consultation clinic is held weekly, on Thursday afternoons.
  • A follow-up assessment clinic is held weekly, on Friday afternoons.

Referral criteria

Patient referrals will not be accepted unless they fall within the following categories:

Cancer-related lymphoedema:

  • The patient is having/has had treatment for cancer under the care of UCLH.
  • The patient’s home address is within the local boroughs.
  • If there is a local lymphoedema service then referrers will be instructed to refer the patient to that service for assessment and management.
