    Edward McKintosh, Pathway Director for Brain and Spine

    Professional background

    Edward McKintosh trained at Guy’s and St. Thomas’s and completed basic surgical training at St. George’s Hospital. After six months as a Senior House Officer at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square he spent seven months researching kuru in Papua New Guinea, before doing a PhD in surgical instrument sterilisation from CJD.

    After higher specialist training in Neurosurgery on the South Thames rotation he returned to Queen Square for further experience in awake craniotomies for epilepsy and tumour surgery. Towards the end of training he won the Norman Dott Gold Medal for obtaining the highest mark in the FRCS(sn) exam. This funded an observership at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, following which he took up his current post at the Royal London Hospital.

    Specialist interests

    His sub-specialist interest is brain tumour surgery with a general neurosurgical practice which includes brain trauma as well as degenerative neck and lumbar spine conditions.
