    Louise Soanes

    Louise is an experienced children’s and young people’s cancer nurse. She has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, UK, as a Nurse Practice Educator and has lectured in nursing at the South Bank University in London. Before taking up her current role as Teenage Cancer Trust Nurse Consultant for Adolescents and Young People at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust she was the Trust’s Senior Sister for Children’s Services.

    She brings a wealth of experience to both the Project Committee and the World Child Cancer UK Board and has had direct experience of programmes in developing countries, having visited childhood cancer wards in Bangladesh. As well as working full-time, Louise gained her professional doctorate in nursing and is the author of academic articles and books on nursing.

    Professional background

    Rachael Hough is a Consultant in Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at UCL Hospitals and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Haematology/Transplantation at UCL. After completing undergraduate training at Nottingham University in 1992, she undertook post graduate general medical and haematology training in Sheffield. On achieving specialist accreditation, she was awarded a 2 year fellowship in transplantation of umbilical cord blood. During this time, she gained specific experience in the management of paediatric and adolescent patients, and spent 3 months working with Professor John Wagner, at the University of Minnesota, gaining specialist expertise in umbilical cord blood transplantation. She is now the Clinical Lead of the largest teenage cancer service in the UK and has developed an adolescent-focussed transplant practice. She has also established and chairs the BSBMT Umbilical Cord Blood Working Group and is the Chief Investigator of the 2 NCRI-badged national cord blood transplant protocols. She is a member of the BSBMT Clinical Trials Committee and the CCLG Leukaemia and BMT Special Interest Groups and Coordinates the adolescent and young adult appendix of UKALL2003.
