Earlier diagnosis 

Earlier cancer diagnosis is crucial to improve survival rates, reduce cancers diagnosed in accident and emergency (currently between 25 and 50%) and reduce costly treatment of late stage cancers.

The earlier diagnosis work programme ties in with the work of London Cancer pathway boards to help improve issues including waiting times.

Building on previous work to deliver faster diagnostics a number of approaches will be taken including mobilising primary care in the early detection of cancer, improving the uptake of cancer screening, piloting new models for improving diagnosis and driving the straight to test agenda.
