EDH Education Centre 

The Education Centre is based at the Eastman Dental Hospital, which is the only postgraduate dental hospital in the UK. Dentists from all over the world come to the hospital to take advanced training. All forms of dental treatment are undertaken from the straightforward and simple treatment to the most advanced techniques in dentistry.

The Eastman Dental Hospital Education Centre provides continual professional development for dental nurses, including pre- and post-registration and other certificated courses.

    Course Overview:

    Many dental patients’ experience a high level of anxiety or may have a phobia about receiving dental treatment which can prevent them from accessing the necessary treatment required to ensure that they achieve good oral hygiene and are dentally fit.   • Post registration certificate on oral health education

    Course Overview:

    Oral Health Education focuses on the skills that dental nurses’ need when communicating key messages to their patients based on their oral health. As a dental nurse you will see many patients who have a variety of dental diseases and these patients will in turn have a variety of need.

    Communication needs to be adapted to suit individual patients; age groups and level of understanding and the oral health education certificate will require you to examine the best methods of communication to use and how to tailor this to the patient. It will also teach you about how you can deliver oral health messages that follow the SMART acronym: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Be able to assist a range of patients covering a variety of Oral Health needs.

    • Have an in-depth knowledge of Oral Health related guidance such as ‘Delivering better oral health: an evidence-based toolkit for prevention.’

    Full Time Dental Nursing Programme Application

    Academic Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 4 GCSE passes* is required. 

    *These must include, at a minimum level, English, Biological Science (or Double Science) and Mathematics GCSE graded C or higher.

    The following can be considered as equivalent to GCSE passes:

    • Scottish Standard Grades
    • Irish Leaving Certificate
    • ‘O’ Levels
    • Module from Access Course stated as GCSE equivalent
    • Overseas qualifications at the appropriate level**

    Applications are further strengthened if the applicant holds any of the below:-

    • Diploma / Degree in Dental Technology
    • Foundation Degree
    • Bachelor Degree
    • Any other healthcare related qualification

    **For educational qualifications gained outside the United Kingdom, the following must be supplied with your application:

    • Certified English translations of all qualifications
    • UK NARIC Letters of Comparability (obtained by the applicant)

    If academic qualifications were not delivered in English; demonstration of competence in the English Language is also required. Applicants must provide a non-expired International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certificate showing a minimum overall score of 7.0 (and no less than 6.5 in any section) in the Academic IELTS Assessment. 

    The Life in the UK English Language test is not appropriate.
